Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin

Does Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin contain all of your necessary vitamins and minerals?

Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin may not contain any animal products, but that doesn’t mean that it skimps on vitamin and mineral content. When it comes to many of the ingredients that you need in a prenatal vitamin, Deva holds its vitamins to the idea of “the more the merrier”. With 12.5mg of vitamin B1, 12.5mg of vitamin B2, 25mg of vitamin B5, 45mg of B6, and 100mcg of B12, Deva has your B vitamin complex covered. Each of those doses exceeds your daily value, but Deva assures you that “B vitamins are safe when taken in higher doses”. Although it is possible to overdose on B vitamins, Deva’s dosage is not high enough to induce any negative effects. Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin also provides plenty of vitamin A and vitamin D, 3500iu of vitamin A and 400iu of vitamin D2. This product is vegan, so it contains vitamin D2 instead of vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is derived from lanolin and can sometimes contain fish oil.

When it comes to the “big three” that you should look for in a prenatal vitamin – folic acid, calcium, and iron, Deva’s high dosage reputation falls a little flat. Although each dose has plenty of folic acid (800mcg), there is only 100mg of calcium. Deva defends this shortage of calcium by saying that calcium takes up too much space in a multivitamin. It’s hard to argue with this reasoning, since calcium IS a bulky nutrient. However, it is up to you to make sure that you take additional calcium supplements if you decide that Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin is right for you. When it comes to iron, Deva has 21 mg – a reasonable amount, although most doctors recommend 25-30mg.

Does Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin use the safest ingredients?

Yes, since this is a vegan product there are no GMO’s, yeast, wheat, gluten, milk, sugar, salt, starch, preservatives, artificial flavors or dyes. There are no animal products, byproducts, or derivatives in this vitamin.

Does Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin contain high-end ingredients?

Yes, Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin has 50mcg of inositol and 50mg of choline. However, it does not contain probiotics, CoQ10, or ginger.

Final Thoughts

In general I consider Deva Nutrition Vegan Prenatal Vitamin to be an above average prenatal vitamin. It contains pretty high dosages of most vitamins and minerals that you need, and personally I prefer a prenatal vitamin that does not contain animal products. Deva’s only shortcoming is its low dose of calcium and its lack of probiotics, CoQ10, and ginger. In short, if having a vegan prenatal vitamin is extremely important to you, this could be the right vitamin for you. If not, take a look at our “best prenatal vitamin” below.

Best Prenatal Vitamin

After doing some research and taking as many as 6 different types of prenatal vitamins, I found a prenatal vitamin that works well for me, its called Prenatalgyn. Prenatalgyn contains all the essential ingredients, that recent research has found to be supportive for a healthy pregnancy. On top of all this many professionals and consumers have written and stated great things about this product.

Prenatalgyn Prenatal Vitamin is simply amazing. It only took a few days of taking Prenatalgyn and I could feel a noticeable difference. I suffer from extreme morning sickness (Hyperemesis gravidarum) and the ginger in Prenatalgyn significantly improved my morning sickness, this was a huge blessing (if you've ever had morning sickness you know what I mean!). I was able to swallow the capsules easily. I also seemed to have a better appetite, and it included all of the most important ingredients at the right amounts. Prenatalgyn does not contain any artificial colors, preservatives, or hydrogenated oils which are not good to have. I would highly recommend Prenatalgyn if you're pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
