Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral
Does Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral contain all of your necessary vitamins and minerals?
Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral provides 22 vitamins and minerals for pregnant women, women trying to become pregnant, and to nursing mothers. This vitamin has slightly higher than average percentages of many crucial vitamins and minerals. Let’s take a look. In terms of the “three must have ingredients,” folic acid, calcium, and iron, this prenatal does pretty well. With 800 mcg of folic acid, and 20mg of iron you’ve already fulfilled your daily requirement. With 400mg of calcium however, you’ve only received a portion of the calcium you need to keep your bones strong and to help your baby grow and develop. With this prenatal vitamin it is up to you to get more than twice the calcium that is in this vitamin. That means you will need to take an additional calcium supplement and/or eat lots of calcium rich foods. For more information about the importance of calcium during pregnancy check out http://bestprenatalvitamins.org/calcium-and-vitamin-d3-supplementation-during-pregnancy.
In addition to the “big three,” Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral also provides high doses of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, biotin, pantothenic acid, iodine, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, choline, inositol, and PABA.
Does Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral use the safest ingredients?
This product should not cause any adverse effects, but, as always, you should talk with your doctor before beginning this, or any other dietary supplement. That being said, these capsules are made with gelatin, which may affect people with allergies or vegans.
Does Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral contain high-end ingredients?
Yes! Each dose of this prenatal vitamin will provide you and your baby with 10mg of choline and 10mg of inositol. This is awesome, because choline and inositol are some of the best things to help you and your baby during this crucial time. Choline helps brain development and may help your baby’s learning skills for life, while inositol helps reduce the likelihood of neural tube defects. These are definitely two important ingredients to look for in your prenatal vitamin, but unfortunately, the dosage in Dr. Green’s prenatal vitamin is a little low. You should really look for 20-25mg each of choline and inositol. This vitamin also lacks probiotics, DHA, CoQ10, and ginger.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I give Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral a pretty high rating, especially compared to many other prenatal vitamins that do not have such high percentages of vitamins and minerals, and do not contain any choline or inositol. To get a full dose of this prenatal vitamin, you should be aware that you need to take two capsules a day. This inherently has a few pros and cons. On the positive side, the capsules can be a bit smaller, and thus easier to swallow. However, you need to remember that a bottle of 120 capsules will only last for 2 months. You also need to remember to take them twice a day, which may be a breeze for some people, but if you’re like me, you have trouble remembering everything! For me, one prenatal vitamin is hard enough to remember.
Dr. Greene Prenatal Multivitamin/Multimineral is a pretty good option for pregnant women, but I would feel better recommending it if it had higher doses of choline and inositol, and contained probiotics, DHA, CoQ10, and ginger.
Best Prenatal Vitamin
After doing some research and taking as many as 6 different types of prenatal vitamins, I found a prenatal vitamin that works well for me, its called Prenatalgyn. Prenatalgyn contains all the essential ingredients, that recent research has found to be supportive for a healthy pregnancy. On top of all this many professionals and consumers have written and stated great things about this product.
Prenatalgyn Prenatal Vitamin is simply amazing. It only took a few days of taking Prenatalgyn and I could feel a noticeable difference. I suffer from extreme morning sickness (Hyperemesis gravidarum) and the ginger in Prenatalgyn significantly improved my morning sickness, this was a huge blessing (if you've ever had morning sickness you know what I mean!). I was able to swallow the capsules easily. I also seemed to have a better appetite, and it included all of the most important ingredients at the right amounts. Prenatalgyn does not contain any artificial colors, preservatives, or hydrogenated oils which are not good to have. I would highly recommend Prenatalgyn if you're pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
