Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin
Does Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin contain all of your necessary vitamins and minerals?
Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin presents a deceptively attractive list of ingredients. While it generally does well at providing high doses of the basic vitamins and minerals, it doesn’t supply any high-end ingredients. On the bright side, Duet Chewable does contain folic acid, calcium, and iron – the three major ingredients that you should look for in a prenatal vitamin. In fact, in terms of folic acid, this vitamin has an unusually high dose – 1mg (equivalent to 1000mcg). In terms of iron as well, this prenatal does pretty well with 29mg. Doctors recommend 25mg-30mg of iron, so here this prenatal vitamin does well for itself. These are definitely strong points for Duet Chewable, but each supplement only contains 100mg of calcium. During pregnancy, calcium is a mineral that is simply too important to skimp on. Although calcium is relatively easy to eat naturally (in milk, yogurt, etc), in my opinion, 100mg of calcium is just not enough in a prenatal vitamin. Ideally, a prenatal vitamin should have at least 500mg of calcium.
Does Duet Chewable Prenatal Multivitamin use the safest ingredients?
Duet’s site states that its prenatal vitamin is made “in conformance with official U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) standards of quality for potency, purity and dissolution.”
Does Duet Chewable Prenatal Vitamin contain high-end ingredients?
Unfortunately, this is where Duet Chewable really falls short. Recent research has shown that prenatal vitamins should include DHA, CoQ10, inositol, and choline. Many prenatal vitamins also offer the added benefits of probiotics and ginger. However, Duet Chewable does not contain any of these. (It should be noted that Duet DOES have a new product called DuetDHA which does contain DHA.)
Is Duet Chewable Prenatal Vitamin backed by doctors?
Duet Chewable is a prescription drug that requires a note from your doctor to purchase.
Final Thoughts
Duet Chewable Prenatal Vitamin sells itself short in my opinion. Although this vitamin contains high doses of vitamins and minerals, it falls short in a big way by not including any high end ingredients. Personally I would not recommend it. However, it IS a chewable prenatal vitamin, and if you decide that you must take a chewable – it could be an option for you. However, it would then be up to you to provide additional supplements of DHA, CoQ10, inositol, and choline.
Best Prenatal Vitamin
After doing some research and taking as many as 6 different types of prenatal vitamins, I found a prenatal vitamin that works well for me, its called Trimedisyn. Trymedisyn contains all the essential ingredients, that recent research has found to be supportive for a healthy pregnancy. On top of all this many professionals and consumers have written and stated great things about this product.
Trimedisyn Prenatal Vitamin is simply amazing. It only took a few days of taking Trimedisyn and I could feel a noticeable difference. I suffer from extreme morning sickness (Hyperemesis gravidarum) and the ginger in Trimedisyn significantly improved my morning sickness, this was a huge blessing (if you've ever had morning sickness you know what I mean!). I was able to swallow the capsules easily. I also seemed to have a better appetite, and it included all of the most important ingredients at the right amounts. Trimedisyn does not contain any artificial colors, preservatives, or hydrogenated oils which are not good to have. I would highly recommend Trimedisyn if you're pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
