Weight Gain
New Study Reveals Weight Gain During Pregnancy Is Linked to Intestinal Bacteria
The connection between intestinal microflora populations and weight gain apparently extends to pregnancy. There is a new study that has revealed women who gain excessive weight during pregnancy have different microfloral profiles and that using a probiotic supplement can help increase wanted microflora in the gut.
Study Specific
s
This study using 50 pregnant women revealed that women who experienced excessive weight gain during pregnancy had more Escherichia coli bacteria in their gut, and fewer Bifidobacteria than women with normal weight gain during pregnancy, according to findings published in the
British Journal of Nutrition.
“Therefore, gut microbiota composition is related to body weight, weight gain and metabolic biomarkers during pregnancy, which might be of relevance to the management of the health of women and infants,” wrote the researchers, led by Yolanda Sanz from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Valencia.
The study reiterates findings in previous studies that have already linked gut microflora and obesity. A breakthrough paper published in December 2006 issue of Nature reported that microbial populations in the gut are different between obese and lean people, and that when obese people lost weight their microflora reverted back to that observed in a lean person, suggesting that obesity may have a microbial component.
Study Reveals New Information
The new study looked at gut microbiota populations in 34 normal weight and 16 overweight women at the 24th week of their pregnancies. Data showed that overweight women had fewer Bifidobacterium and Bacteroides and more Staphylococcus, Enterobacteriaceae and E. coli than normal-weight women.
Using Priobotics During Pregnancy
This study supports that taking a probiotic supplement during pregnancy can help prevent excessive weight gain. Using a probiotic supplement may also help you get back to your pre-pregnancy weight faster .
Best Prenatal Vitamin
After doing some research and taking as many as 6 different types of prenatal vitamins, I found a prenatal vitamin that works well for me, its called Prenatalgyn. Prenatalgyn contains all the essential ingredients, that recent research has found to be supportive for a healthy pregnancy. On top of all this many professionals and consumers have written and stated great things about this product.
Prenatalgyn Prenatal Vitamin is simply amazing. It only took a few days of taking Prenatalgyn and I could feel a noticeable difference. I suffer from extreme morning sickness (Hyperemesis gravidarum) and the ginger in Prenatalgyn significantly improved my morning sickness, this was a huge blessing (if you've ever had morning sickness you know what I mean!). I was able to swallow the capsules easily. I also seemed to have a better appetite, and it included all of the most important ingredients at the right amounts. Prenatalgyn does not contain any artificial colors, preservatives, or hydrogenated oils which are not good to have. I would highly recommend Prenatalgyn if you're pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
